I’m at the part where they’re discussing a doctor’s responsibility of knowing when it’s appropriate to prescribe antibiotics. Another factor they haven’t discussed is the part employers play. Each time I’ve run to the doctor to get treated for some upper respiratory ailment, getting better was not upper most in my mind. It was not missing days of work. I’ve watched people who were out sick get passed over for work opportunities or in one case, get fired. I’d wager I’m not the only one that insisted on drugs to treat something that probably would have just run its course with soup and bed rest. But staying home sick is simply not an option for many US workers. They might mention it though. I’m only 23 minutes in.
